lo, which is the loop-back address. That information is configured in the ifcfg-lo file in that directory. The contents of the file can help you understand how files in that directory are used for network devices. By Default, you should see the following entries in that file, starting with the name of the loop-back device.

It;s followed by the IP address, net-mask, the network IP address, along with the corresponding broadcast address.
